LA SAUVAGINE
La Sauvagine has a lovely authentic, bistro atmosphere. Jazz played in the background. We ordered the caeser salad, vegetable soup, grilled porgy, sautéed cod and potato, and the poached pear with wine sauce for dessert. We also had a bottle of Chardonnay. The service was attentive and the food was delicious.

Luxe Bistro
Came here on a Saturday for some brunch, we sat in the patio which was nice because the weather was nice.We ordered drinks to start, unfortunately the waitress spilled one of the drinks on the table all over my phone and shoes. Wasn't too happy about it, because it seemed like she didn't know how to properly hold the drink tray, maybe for next time it would be nice if she put the tray on the table before handling our drinks.Other then that the food was good, I've been here before for lunch and I've loved the lunch menu. It's a nice restaurant, the staff is nice and it's location is perfect right at the middle of the byward market, definitely a must try during summer time

Rodney's Oyster House
Top notch oyster joint! Super friendly and attentive staff. The oysters were amazing and I tried the scallops. Probably the best scallops I've ever had out.

The 120 day dry age is a gimmick. IMO its way too long and it has crossed into the land of charcuterie. It has the distinct taste of dry cured meats such as salami. The steak had great looking marbling but when cooked to 130F it is not juicy. It was easily one of the worst steaks I have had (given the money I paid). It boggles my mind that this is the standard your butcher shop offers. The standard should be 28-45 day. Then offer 120 day as as an exception and not the standard. This is the sweet spot for flavour, tenderness and concentration. Its so weird you ONLY do 120 day. Why not pull them at 4-6 weeks and sell those for 35/lb like other premium butcher shops ( such as Cumbraes).Anyways I think you butcher shop was wonderful (kudos for carrying hanger steak!). Also the burgers looked fantastic (will have to try them next time). Loosely packed coarse ground is key to great burger texture.Just your dry age program is freakin bonkers lol.

The Barrington Steakhouse & Oyster Bar
Went here in mid November 2022 but only getting to write this review now. It was our 2nd time at the probably the best steakhouse in the city.Firstly, I must mention that we came back due to the amazing service we received. The service at Barrington Steakhouse is second to none in Halifax. Everywhere else seems to always lack the professionalism, but this restaurant is doing everything right. Their waiters know exactly what each dish and beverage is, and are able to reliably answer any queries. Now onto the food and drinks. We simply had 2 entrées and 2 drinks. My partner had the sangria that she described as the perfect concoction. I had a tropical fruit mocktail. I was pleasantly surprised to find 3 non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. All I wish is that there were more because my mocktail was that good! But living in Halifax, you take what you can get since there are not a lot of non-alcoholic options at restaurants. Most don’t even have a non alcoholic option on the menu. I ordered the striploin with fried, while my partner had the cigar tenderloin with whipped potatoes. Both steak were done medium. However, my striploin was not as flavourful as I expected it to me. Maybe I should have gone for the rib eye instead. Surprisingly though, my partner’s cigar tenderloin was a lot juicer than mine. Must have been the way it was cooked. The whipped potatoes was exquisite. Great flavour and felt like a cloud when you ate it.Price-wise, it is on the expensive side. Expect to spend at least $70-$80 per person. That’s the main reason for the 4 stars today. All in all; my partner definitely made the better choice this time out. However, I could not have given any less than 4 stars due to the level of service. Will probably come back as a treat at least once in 2023

Restaurant Ikanos
Wonderful seafood options, guaranteed delicious meal. Went with their tasting experience which was 3 shared courses between two of us, plus a shared dessert. All meal items were delicious, with the dessert slightly underwhelming in comparison to the rest. It's an expensive restaurant, the tasting experience being 96 dollars a head, and one might question the cost when evaluating the simplicity of what's on the table in front of them. An entire sea bass and a pound of octopus and squid probably adds up. Either way expect to spend around $70-$100 for an average a la carte order. That being said, portion sizes are good and flavours are wonderful. I left overly full and satisfied. I do recommend the tasting experience if you can fork out 96 dollars. To note: the fish plate did not come presented like that, it was an entire sea bass on a shared platter which was portioned out onto our plates by our server. Best fish I've had all year easily. On the side was charred/grilled leeks, which were very good also.

CHALK Spirits ~ Tapas ~ Billiards
A awesome lounge to relax and chill out at and socialize and be friendly and joke around and make friends and play a nice game of pool and the food is the same as the Flying Canoe Pub and the loving -loyal-caring-hard working staff featuring the 1 and only Robert and the 1 and only Birendra and the 1 and only Josh are always happy to serve their customers with very big smiles on their faces. There is a very diverse selection of music played featuring Country-Top 40-Blues and a little dose of heavy metal on the side. Come on down and relax at the Chalk lounge and have some fun and the lounge manager Todd who is also the manager of the Flying Canoe Pub looks like Shaggy from the cartoon Scooby Doo. Hey everybody peace out and have a nice day. Cheers.

Rodney’s Oyster House
Rodney's continues to reign supreme in the oyster world, but lately I've come to appreciate their other offerings more. Went there recently for dinner and I have to say, the Smoker's Platter for 2 is some of the best smoked fish I've had in the city, and the onion rings are amazingly sweet and easily the best in the city.Service is friendly and efficient, place has a casual energy to it. While prices are high, they're worth it if you like quality seafood without a lot of bells and whistles where the quality is made to shine. Long live Rodney's!

Diana's Oyster Bar and Grill
A great local seafood spot for us loving in East York and Scarborough. We decided to indulge and have the seafood platter for two. Definitely enough for 3 people. Overall, everything was pretty tasty and fresh. I would say that instead of serving platter with fried rice, a simple pilaf rice would do. Not sure if I’ll order this platter every time I visit, but it’s nice once I a while.
